A day in the life of a Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT).
“My day usually starts with the pharmacist, clinically screening the prescriptions. This makes sure that the medication is clinically suitable for the patients. An ACPT cannot check the prescriptions until the pharmacist has done this first.
My role is to check the accuracy of the dispenses and record any errors found, such as the name, address, date of birthday, drug name, strength, form, and quantity. I check mostly trays at Victory, averaging around 20 patients (80 trays) per day. I check that all of the drugs are correct and count all of the tablets individually in the trays. As you can imagine, it takes a lot of concentration and time!
As well as this, I train the team, motivate the team, lead team meetings, record and analyse any errors found and phone patients, hospitals and doctors surgeries on behalf of the patient and our pharmacist. It’s non-stop for most of the day, but it’s very interesting and valuable work!” - Susan McCaughan
